Critical Commentary
A statue is built in the middle of the walkway that separates the river and the land that the Amis lives on. It seems to feature a female Amis dressed in a red robe with a red head scarf tied around her head. She appears to be holding a bag while facing and pointing towards the land where the group lives on. The bag could be a betel nut bag which may consist of nuts, limestone and smoking pipe. The gender of the statue might represent the traditional matrilineal kinship system. The statue might be an important symbol that represents the identity of the people who lives there and carries significant value in marking the place as the home of the Amis.
While the statue looks quite old and rustic, it is actually well taken care of as seen by the efforts made by the people to keep the statue upright and steady using ropes and wooden planks.
