In the accompanying press release for this report UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore highlighted key facts:
(1) at the height of the response to the pandemic schools in over 192 countries closed. This impacted over 1.6 billions students.
(2) At the time of the report (September 2020) 872 million students in 51 countries do not have access to in-person learning.
(3) For at least 463 million students, there was "no such thing as 'remote learning.'
(4) At least 24 million children are expected to drop out of school due to COVID19
