While the goals of the Climate Ready Philly workshops were to bring climate change education and resources to Philadelphia communities, individuals reported a wide range of reasons for attending our workshops. For some, such as Diane Smith, the main draw was not the topic of climate change, but rather the fact that the facilitators of the workshop were people who were taking interest in the community. For Diane, the main motivator was the potential for the workshop not only to provide her community with resources but also the workshop's ability to bring people together as a community.
Ali: Why were you interested in climate change? What was interesting about the workshop to you? Why did you want to come? Was it specific to climate change or was ... What was the hook for you to come to the workshop?
Diane: The hook for me was somebody was listening. Somebody finally listening, we finally got some help. It's just not enough. That's all. And I'm willing to help, whatever it is. I just want to help. I just want to live, breathe, be happy. But I can't do it by myself. Or just us three or four or five, you know what I'm saying? We need the community.
