Critical Commentary
A photo of environmental chemist Wilma Subra, taken by journalist Rick Mullin for the website Chemical & Engineering News. For many years, Subra has worked with communities and residents impacted by oil, gas, and petrochemical industries in the Southern United States. The picture shows Subra in her kitchen, which also functions as an office, in front of stacks of paper that she uses to inform communities about environmental and health issues. The picture was among the first that got me interested in the archives created by environmental activists, and the need for infrastructure to support and better understand this kind of data work.
