US EPA: Role as an Agency

Text

According to the EPA, “When Congress writes an environmental law, we implement it by writing regulations.” These regulations set national standards, which states and tribes enforce, with the EPA providing assistance as necessary. The agency also allocates substantial resources, stating, “Nearly half of our budget goes into grants,” supporting state programs, scientific studies, and community initiatives aimed at protecting human health and the environment. Additionally, the EPA conducts research to address environmental challenges and collaborates globally, affirming, “We share information with other countries, private sector organizations, academic institutions, and other agencies.” The EPA emphasizes partnerships, noting, “We work with businesses, non-profit organizations, and state and local governments”, to promote sustainable practices and address environmental risks. Education is also a priority to the EPA, stressing that, “Protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility,” and advocating for public awareness and engagement. Through its publications and outreach efforts, the EPA ensures transparency and informs the public about its initiatives and findings.
