The (Systems and) Scales of Energy Justice: On the Multi-dimensional Stakes of a Just Energy Transition (James Adams)

Though Austin, Texas has an impressive history of pairing city growth and development with a strong commitment to a renewable energy transition, this “green-growth” success story is also deeply entangled with the continued displacement and disparagement of the city’s black and brown communities. In this talk I will discuss more recent attempts by local environmental organizations and city planners to reckon with this legacy of structural racism as they factor in different systems and scales of analysis into a new, equity-centered approach to energy transition planning and practice.
