When it comes to sea level rise, the intensity of storm surges, flooding, and damage to coastal areas is said to likely occur where large population centers are located, which could lead to the displacement of several individuals, as they seek to find safer homes.
Those most vulnerable to sea level rise are disadvantaged populations, meaning individuals that have access to the fewest resources, with little to no ability to adapt and respond to issues, such as being displaced, brought on by sea level rise. It is often these communities that experience the most detrimental effects of not only sea level rise, but climate change in general. These groups include racial minorities, older individuals, low income populations, and renters.
