Sea level rise has become a highly discussed topic over the last decade, due to changing climate conditions around the world. In general, sea level rise refers to the increase in the level of the oceans on the planet, due to the effects of global warming. The practice of burning fossil fuels is one of the biggest contributors to increasing global warming, as it releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. The majority of the heat generated is then absorbed by the oceans. As the water becomes warmer, it expands in volume, leading to sea level rise.
