The authors of this article are global health experts calling for global scientific action to mitigate and address the health burden of climate change, particularly for populations which are already being disproportionaly impacted by malnutrition, disease, and floods. They argued for the commissioning of a Global Burden of Climate Change study, modeled off of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study but adapted to track the historical and real-time health impacts of climate change. They envision that the results of such a study could be used to lobby for climate justice and support efforts to attain universal health coverage and climate-resilient health systems.
