Critical Commentary

El Vado is a historical neighborhood in the city of Cuenca, marked by rural migration, economic marginalization in the 19th century, and limited urban infrastructure—including the absence of adequate water management systems or the persistence of drug abuse—until the late 20th century. El Vado is today one of the most heavily polluted neighborhoods in the city, a high stressed community due to the concomitance of air pollution, noise disruption, and limited economic opportunities.
