Critical Commentary

This publication by EPA entails recommended interventions to address air pollution at school’s near roadway. Exposure to air pollution has been linked to a variety of short and long term health effects such as asthma, reduced lung function, impaired lung development and cardiovascular effects. Children spend the majority of their time at school and ensuring a safe school  environment is crucial to reducing children’s exposure to environmental hazards. This publication helps school communities to identify strategies that can be implemented to reduce traffic-related pollution exposure from heavily traveled roadway.  Strategies such as proper ventilation and  filtration systems, transportation policies, and roadside barriers.
